A waste treatment plant in Arkansas was experiencing reliability issues with one of their screw blowers operating on their equalization tank. The blower had failed several times, forcing the plant to operate with a spare blower. When the spare blower also started having issues, the plant reached out to Inovair to see if they could provide a more reliable option. The new blower would have to provide 1,750 ICFM @ 15.6 PSIG and also be able to operate between 8.0 - 19.0 PSIG with reduced flow. Because of the plant’s limited budget, they would need to be able to install the new blower themselves, re-use any electronics as well as any piping and accessories. Also, since the spare blower was limping by, the plant would need delivery and installation of the new blower within six weeks. Because Inovair geared centrifugal blowers are designed with the ability to operate up to 22 psig, Inovair was confident their proven reliable geared centrifugal blower would not only operate trouble-free in this application but provide a power savings.
With the failed screw PD blower being only a couple of years old, the plant asked if the existing 150 HP VFD could be re-used. Inovair was able to re-use the existing VFD because the reliability issues were caused by the screw blowers.
The ability to re-use VFD's is a standard feature of the Inovair blower line and allows a plant to not only reduce capital costs but to reduce installation costs as well.
After a year of operating trouble-free and noticing a substantial reduction in their power bill, the plant decided to compare the power draw of the new Inovair blower to the spare screw blower. The plant took separate amp draws during operation of the Inovair blower and the screw blower. After allowing the screw blower to stabilize and run at the same flow & pressure as the Inovair blower they took amp draws of the screw blower and found the Inovair blower had lower amp draws by nearly 17%. This reduced amp draw matched what the reduction was in the power bill and confirmed the plants belief that not only did the Inovair IM series blower eliminate downtime but provided a substantial power savings.
