NOT YOUR TYPICAL CENTRIFUGAL BLOWER
A wastewater treatment plant in WI replaced their existing PD blowers utilized in their aeration and digester processes with Inovair integrally geared turbo blowers.
The rotary lobe blowers were inefficient, nearing the end of their useful life, and had reliability concerns. The utility looked into replacing the existing blowers in kind as well as upgrading to high-speed gearless turbo blowers, single-stage centrifugal blowers, or the Inovair geared centrifugal blowers. A life cycle cost analysis was used in the evaluation an additional factor that was considered was would the new blowers be able to reliably operate in a start/stop application since the process design would require the new blowers to provide both the aeration and digestion process on the same header and would require the new blowers to be able to start stop every 24 minutes.
The evaluation determined that the Inovair geared centrifugal blower would be the best solution for the plant. With Inovair’s high efficiency, low capital cost, and ability to start/stop as required (due to the use of non-contact oil film bearings) the Inovair gear centrifugal blower provided the lowest cost of ownership while being reliable in this demanding application.
Now operating for over 3 years the use of Inovair blowers resulted in not only substantial energy savings and improved process control, but also drastically improved reliability, even while start/stopping on average of 9/10 times per day.
